1. Overview

Gear noise should be accurately called gear transmission noise, which refers to the noise radiated by the meshing gear pair or gear set due to mutual collision or friction during transmission.

2. Gear noise analysis and reasons

gear noise analysis

In order to reduce the noise of the gear transmission system from the design point of view, we should first analyze the types and mechanism of the noise of the gear system.

In the gear system, according to the different mechanism, the noise can be divided into two kinds of acceleration noise and noise. On the one hand, when the gear teeth are engaged, the gear will produce a large acceleration due to the impact and will cause the surrounding medium disturbance. The sound radiation generated by this disturbance is called the acceleration noise of the gear. On the other hand, under the action of the dynamic meshing force of the gear, the parts of the system will produce vibration, and the sound radiation generated by these vibrations is called the noise.

For open gear transmission, the acceleration noise is directly radiated from the impact of the gear teeth, while the self-ringing noise is radiated from the wheel body, transmission shaft, etc. For the closed gear transmission, the acceleration noise first radiates to the air and lubricating oil in the gear box, and then radiates through the gear box. The self-ringing noise is caused by the vibration of the gear body through the transmission shaft to vibrate the support, which is radiated through the vibration of the gearbox box wall. Generally speaking, self-ringing noise is the main sound source of closed gear transmission. Therefore, the noise intensity of the gear system is not only related to the dynamic excitation force of the gear teeth, but also to the wheel body and the transmission shaft. The structural form, dynamic characteristics and dynamic meshing force of bearings and boxes are related to the transmission characteristics between them.
